Pursuing a career in dental hygiene, dental assisting, or dentistry is a rewarding journey, filled with the promise of improving patients' oral health and contributing to overall well-being. However, the path to becoming a skilled dental professional is often accompanied by significant financial challenges. The cost of education, from tuition fees to textbooks and clinical supplies, can be daunting for many students. The Financial Hurdles of Dental Education Dental education programs are known for their rigorous curriculum and hands-on training, which require substantial resources. As a result, students often face a heavy financial burden that can add stress and anxiety to their academic pursuits. For many aspiring dental professionals, managing these costs while focusing on their studies can be overwhelming. This is where financial support, such as scholarships, plays a crucial role. PerioDT by Young Innovations is a desiccation gel or liquid application that claims to reduce pocket biofilm, remove and coagulate debris from the pocket, is not an antibiotic, and has no post-op protocols to follow. The product provides homeostasis to seal off the ulcerate tissues since the primary method of action is dehydration technology. This desiccation technology also pulls biofilm off the teeth, and some clinicians have reported that it softens calculus, and removes plaque leading to less operator fatigue and increased patient comfort. It is safe to use on natural teeth, implants, and other prosthetics. This topical adjunct can also be used on patients with heavy biofilm, moderate to severe inflammation, and for pre- and post-instrumentation during scaling and root planing cases. The technology dries out the tooth surface and removes the smear layer to enhance healing and long-term success. Their studies found after 2 applications, there were undetectable bacterial DNA and inflammatory mediators 2 weeks post-treatment and a decrease of 99% in red complex bacteria. The purpose was to still provide nicotine but not the other hundreds of harmful chemicals. Vapes work by heating the liquid inside a cartridge that creates a vapor and is inhaled. Consumers may believe that vapes or e-cigarettes are a healthier alternative to traditional smoking, however, these still contain harmful substances such as nicotine, lead, formaldehyde, and acrolein. Oral health concerns linked to vaping include dry mouth, periodontal disease, tooth decay, and oral lesions.
